Maritess SuttonProfessor WoodEnglish 101-24February 20, 2014From Homeschool to College: Into the UnknownI had no idea what m 'wait when I started college. I had always thought about it, but because I had been homeschooled my whole life, I knew nothing about public school life, much less college life. Everything about college was completely new to me, like having to walk from class to class or making sure I was on time. There have been many aspects of college life that I have had to adapt to during this new transition in my life. When transitioning from homeschool to college, I encountered many difficulties trying to navigate new challenges inside and outside of the classroom while trying to adapt to an unfamiliar environment. Before all the difficulties and challenges I would face in college, my life was much different. When I was still in high school, I was carefree and laid back. I didn't have to worry about taking notes or studying for a big exam. I didn't have to meet deadlines because I did my work at my own pace. Basically, Monday through Friday, I woke up around 7 a.m. and I would start doing my work, taking regular breaks, then finish around 3:30 p.m. I basically had my own schedule and never had to worry about being late for class. Driving in the rain or snow wasn't a problem for me before. I didn't have to wonder if the class was going to be canceled. My life was definitely a lot simpler before college. In some ways, being homeschooled spoiled me and certainly didn't prepare me for what I would face in college. Some of the difficulties and challenges I faced in class were regular daily occurrences. The first aspect of college life that I had difficulty adjusting to was being... middle of paper ...... usage I always do my homework and study, and I I managed my exam anxiety much better. But overall, my academic life has been and will continue to be constantly changing and adapting to new challenges and opportunities that present themselves. It’s been a learning experience and I imagine it will continue. At first, college life was very difficult for me, both inside and outside of the classroom. In class, I had to learn how to manage my test anxiety, take better notes, focus more, and not be so distracted. I learned to manage my test anxiety and take better notes. Outside of the classroom, I had to learn how to study effectively, do my homework every day, meet deadlines, manage my time wisely, and avoid procrastination. I learned to overcome these challenges by learning from my mistakes and being determined to succeed..
