The tragedy that occurred in Newton, Connecticut swept the world with various emotions. Many people were angry or saddened by the tragedy. I think more people were angry about what happened to those 20 innocent children. Parents send their children to school thinking they are safe, but this case ended in tragedy. I will discuss the similarities and differences between two articles. I will also explain why this shooting is a symbolic crime, how likely it is that policy changes will be enacted, and how unlikely it is that they will be enacted. I will first discuss the similarity between the two articles. These two articles have very few similarities. These two articles focus on ways to help society prevent another incident like the Sandy Hook shooting. They have developed policies that can try to prevent another school shooting of this magnitude from happening again. They both focus on the security of society. Second, I will discuss the differences between the two articles. These two articles have many differences. The main difference is how they will prevent another shooting. The NRA is focusing more on a program called the National School Shield Emergency Program. This program aims to recruit a trained security officer to every school to help protect children. The NRA has stated that this program will be free to ensure that every school has the chance to benefit from this program. In relation to the NRA, the other article offers various ideas to help protect children. Most of these ideas focus on improving licensing standards. Make them stricter so that individuals must renew them every two years. It also talks about requiring safety and fire training......in the middle of the document......g, which could have raised questions about the policy changes. Although no policy changes have taken place yet, I believe that one day we will have new gun policies. The goal of these policies may not be directly related to schools, but I believe they will help prevent more shootings. I think policies will focus on the gun purchasing process and the licensing that comes with gun ownership. With these policies taking effect, I believe they can help prevent other shootings like the one at Sandy Hook Elementary School from happening again. Ultimately, these two articles both contain ideas about policies that need to be put in place. Even though they know they may come from different perspectives, they both have the same idea of ​​keeping citizens safe. I hope that one day some of the policies they proposed will be implemented.
