    Gender ideologies have played a crucial role in shaping contemporary society. These ideologies are still present and continue to shape the attitudes and roles of men and women. Gender ideologies can refer to the expected roles that men and women should perform. This reference can illustrate that men should work and be the head of the household while women should stay at home and take care of their children. The novel Brick Lane and the story collection Interpreter of Maladies both demonstrate the influence of homeland in diasporic experiences. Brick Lane mainly depicts the life story and growth of two sisters, Nazneen and Hasina from Bangladesh. Hasina then runs away and marries the man she was in love with and Nazneen soon after moved to London to begin her life in arranged marriage with Chanu. The setting therefore takes place both in Bangladesh, mainly in Dhaka, and in Brick Lane, a street in East London, England. The two characters Nazneen and Chanu are explored in relation to their influence on gender ideologies. Additionally, the reader meets Nazneen for the first time as the story begins when Nazneen's mother gives birth to her. The spectacle is clearly explained but also remarkable, because the midwife declares that the baby is dead. However, when the newborn cries little, the three women present suggest that there is hope for the baby's survival, even if it is very weak. Rupban must decide whether to send her weak baby to the hospital or just see what fate will do. Despite his sister-in-law's wishes, Rupban declared that they should not hinder Destiny. This perspective therefore becomes very significant for Nazneen's perspective on her life. Although this is through Westernization, Twinkle can therefore be seen as a unique individual while conforming to the gender ideologies of Western women. In conclusion, gender ideologies are present in both societies in the novel and the short story. This helped accentuate the message to readers, but more importantly, readers saw the two companies' different ways of thinking. However, it can be said that not all men are expected to earn a living and be heads of household. Women can do the same, but it is considered the norm that they stay at home and cook, clean, wash and care for children. but it is clear that these two contradictory arguments can represent both the West and the East. So, it can be said that both gender ideologies may be valid, but they are useful in each of their own ways..
