Essay / Major Scientific Discoveries - 550
Michael Faraday was an English scientist who lived in the 1800s. Faraday always had an interest in becoming a scientist, but due to his lower social class this was almost impossible. His great discovery was that electricity passing through a wire releases an electric force. The idea came to him when the scientist he worked with placed a compass on either side of an electrical wire. The compass needle is deflected at a right angle. He later performed his own experiment to prove it was true or false. He placed a static magnet under a wire. He then passed electricity through the wire and the wire rotated around the magnet, proving his theory. Antonie and Marie Lavioseir were French scientists living in the 1700s. Antonie Lavioseir had a theory that matter is neither created nor destroyed. After their marriage, Marie promised to become a scientific assistant. The Lavioseir tried to prove that Antonie's theory was correct. The way they tried to prove his theory was that he first turned water into water vapor. Then he passed it through a pipe embedded in red hot c....
