Essay / The Influences of Fun and Humor in the Workplace
The dynamic of fun and humor brings stakeholders together to promote a welcoming environment. Fun and humor create an open culture and provide perspective for employees. With the right balance of these elements, stakeholders are productive, satisfied and much more open to creativity. Likewise, employers who recognize their employees make better decisions at work. However, the consequences of fun and humor have serious downsides to the extent that fun and humor can be tolerated today. Problems arise when perceptions of relevance and personal obstacles affect humor and fun in the workplace among stakeholders. Additionally, with modern workplaces, contemporary issues arise where the level of access to social networking sites affects factors such as performance and the implications this can have on individuals and the organization as a whole . The need for an encouraging environment is vital, as the right balance will provide employees and employers with a comfortable environment. Maslow's pyramid of needs, shown by Norman (2008, p.10), demonstrates the importance of pleasure and humor as well as other factors in an everyday situation. Horin (2011) expresses the need for a balance between these elements; as a result, employers and employees will not cooperate and end up leaving the workplace prematurely due to a negative environment. Kersley et al., 2006 (cited in Baptiste, 2009) suggest that introducing fun into the workplace improves performance, which in turn improves work motivation and reduces stress levels associated with assigned responsibilities. inside and outside the workplace.
