Currently I work in a group home with three men with chronic mental illnesses, two of whom have been institutionalized for over ten years and s strive to acquire appropriate social skills while abandoning behaviors they learned in their previous contexts. Basic skills such as closing the toilet door or not consuming meals at a world record rate present many challenges. Behavior modification programs are always adapted and adjusted as things change for them. Establishing positive reward systems that can lead to appropriate behaviors in themselves is challenging. Another equally important challenge is training less experienced personnel in the use of these programs with a focus on these men's short- and long-term goals. Counseling in this context is more on the level of counseling and crisis intervention versus a typical outpatient relationship that I hope to fit into in the
