Essay / Analysis of The Party Is Over by Mile Lofgren - 766
The Party is Over by Mike Lofgren goes undercover to reveal what politics looks like behind the screen. I think this book was more about criticizing the Republican Party and Republicans than Democrats. The Republican Party and Republicans are very different in politics today than they were decades ago. The book explains how Republicans are anti-government, how Republicans are anti-science and anti-intellectual, and also how they view religious rights. All this leads to political problems. Democrats were higher than Republicans, but were still mentioned. They too have caused damage in current politics. This book tells us how the Republicans went crazy and the Democrats became useless, and how that became a problem. Republicans are against the federal government. As a result, they ruin the concept of the foundations of autonomy in a representative democracy. They use objection, obstruction, and filibustering to not only block the process of governing, but also to make Americans deeply cynical about Washington. According to the book, legislating has become “war without shooting”. Eric Cantor, the Republican leader of the House, said he would drop any major legislation that could potentially affect our economic recovery for an entire session of Congress. Newt Gingrich is another example of a Republican who isn't quite suited to political work. Newt Gingrich considered the House a rotten and corrupt institution, largely because it was run by Democrats. When Gingrich took control of the House, it only resulted in wasted money and stationary committee nameplates. It also decimated the traditional committee system and reduced the power of the committee chair. When he resigned and the other Republic... middle of paper ......we could deduce that, in a way, the Obama administration resembled the Bush administration in terms of national foreign policy. Obama also made poor choices in expanding on Bush policies that were already a dangerous departure from constitutional practices. Another thing Obama did was increase our spending by the billions, which can undermine his domestic reform programs and lead to costly and divisive foreign wars. In conclusion, this book tells us how the Republicans went crazy and the Democrats became useless. and how it became a problem. The book exposes the flaws of Republicans and Democrats “behind the scenes” and made me more aware of the parties today. Works Cited Lofgren, Mike.
