  • Essay / Analysis of Vygotsky's Cognitive Development - 817

“Vygotsky states that cognitive development arises from the social interactions of guided learning as a child and the co-construction of one's partner's knowledge. In contrast, Piaget argues that cognitive development arises largely from independent explorations in which children construct their own knowledge. For Vygotsky, the environment in which children grow up will influence how they think and what they think about. Although I believe that children learn through experience and exploration, I agree most with Vygotsky's idea that they learn most through guidance. They can explore new environments but it will be an adult who will guide them and teach them not to do certain things or to avoid an injury or accident from happening.
