Essay / A Clash of Souls - 892
If someone took the music I listened to as an indicator of my age, they would probably guess that I was born somewhere between 1980 and 1990. Maybe I'm a passionate about disco dancing, -a "fashionable" guy at heart. . . but certainly not in the body. Music permeates my life, providing background to even the smallest and most menial tasks. Of all the music I've had the pleasure of listening to, no band sounds as similar yet so very different as Weezer and Gorillaz. While Weezer creates traditional punk rock feelings, Gorillaz mixes contemporary elements to bring fun to their music. The Gorillaz's synthetic rhythms create infectious catch. .... middle of paper ...... coming out of the monkey's head". The lyrics regularly allude to other songs. Most Gorillaz albums are "concept albums" or albums that tell a story big story or convey a single message As Gorillaz songs are ideas and concepts, they are not as concrete Gorillaz does not create a mental image, but implants ideas through its songs connected to the one who listens. Both Weezer and Gorillaz might think that comparing the two is pointing out the subtle differences between identical twins, but it's the subtle differences that make it all different. While Weezer conforms to tradition, Gorillaz stands out. in a contemporary way. Weezer tells a story and creates an image; Gorillaz conveys a deeper idea through allegory in related songs. Two of my favorite bands of all time couldn't be more different, but that's their differences. which makes them Weezer and Gorillaz..
