Essay / Definition of Feminism - 1913
For example, one of the ideas or common points to take away from everyone's presentations on their respective scientific papers was that there are still obstacles for women trying to work in the STEM fields. These obstacles range from biases in hiring processes, which we have discussed several times in class using the example of two theoretically identical candidates whose names only have been changed, to the difficulties young women face in entering the STEM field. While these obstacles are not a matter of life and death, nor necessarily a problem for feminists to solve, feminism could help improve women in some way. Additionally, if feminists can eliminate some of these barriers to entry into STEM fields, then they can begin to eliminate bias within the field itself; this, in turn, would create an environment free of bias towards women and help break several stereotypes, including the rather common stereotype that men are inherently stronger in math and science.
