    Redefining the definition of a “***perfect” body Nowadays, a positive body image is an important factor to maintain, not only for a person's physical well-being , but also because it can determine a person's mental state and well-being. Firstly, we women are more likely to maintain and acquire a “body” that can be acceptable in society. Women are subjected to social injustice on a daily basis regarding their bodies and what their ideal body should be. Such an “ideal” body can include almost impossible proportions and weight goals. Ideal body proportions, weight and features are demonstrated by the media. The desire for an ideal body distorts positive body image and creates a desire for change, especially among young women. Businesses and corporations benefit from this insecurity and desire. One way to understand how corporations take advantage of women's insecurity is to examine Pilisuk's theories on networks of power as well as how large corporations manipulate power and will. The media is essentially about advertising. Through the media and corporations, young women are exposed to the “ideal body type.” This body type includes a flat stomach, thin arms, a broad bust, a thin waist, and a broad back. A face is idyllic with a thin nose, pointed eyebrows, high cheekbones and thick lips. The leading actress in most films fits this “ideal body type”. This body type is depicted in media such as magazines, television shows, celebrity photos, blogs and photography, as well as in society's desired image of the woman. It is shown that by reaching these proportions we will achieve happiness and social acceptance. This creates a negative body image in most young women. Negative body image... middle of paper ......
