Essay / A Nation Under Walmart - 1442
Since the earliest ages of man, there have always been dominant individuals, people who are physically stronger, more intelligent, and/or both, compared to others. It is thanks to these individuals that the human race has survived. The strongest and most intelligent individuals became leaders and were guides to the weaker individuals. This is the case of Walmart, the world's largest company, a dominant leader in the field of offering low-cost consumer goods. Any leader will come under scrutiny at some point during their tenure, so it seems natural that Walmart would do so. Over the past few years, Walmart has been publicly criticized for several reasons. However, as with any negative information ever received, one must always consider the source. The majority of negative propaganda comes from Walmart Corporation's enemies, the unions. Unions continue to spread negative propaganda about Walmart and go to great lengths to sour the taste of Walmart on consumers' tongues in order to advance their own agendas, when in reality Walmart greatly benefited America. Sam Walton opened his first Walmart store in Rogers, Arkansas in 1962. Walton practiced frugality in his life and used his frugality to grow the Walmart Corporation. He succeeded by buying products at low prices, sometimes traveling long distances to do so, and then marking up those products slightly less than his retail competitors. Consumers chose to shop at Walmart because of their lower prices, and although the company did not make as large a profit per item, their sales volume exceeded that of its competitors. High sales volume allowed Walmart to grow, and it did. By 1970, Walmart had 32 paper stores......consumer products. It's easy to see where some people read the negative things written about the Walmart Corporation, and without investigating further, believe what they read. The unions have become very ruthless and they will stop at nothing to win the battle against Walmart, but if one takes the time to really investigate the negative propaganda, they will realize that it all comes from the resentment of the labor unions. employees. What I discovered while researching propaganda is how much our country has benefited from the Walmart Corporation. Not only is Sam Walton's story a testimony to all Americans; that through hard work greatness can be achieved, but the Walmart company has become a great ally in saving consumers money, which is especially important in these times of financial instability.
