  • Essay / Proofs of the existence of God

If God is something that has a mystical and mysterious property, the God that humans talk about and think about would necessarily be exclusively a metaphor, like God, by the very admission of Christian (was raised Roman Catholic, if that means anything here), is not something we can ever hope to fully understand. I'm not saying that God doesn't literally exist, I'm just saying that we don't have the capacity to think and talk about God in a way that, for lack of a better phrase, does him justice, so any reference to humans that you have ever made about God is a metaphor. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on “Why Violent Video Games Should Not Be Banned”? Get an original essay As I write this, I find myself wondering whether or not an absolute, complete, and undeniable truth can be understood about something. if this something is not fully, but only partially known, for the answer to this question would serve as the core or punchline to my position above: that the God that humans speak and think of is exclusively a metaphor. This question leads me to look for metaphor, or rather my own analogy, to provide as examples whether a partial truth can or cannot be a truth. Let's say for example that you know a person. There are a lot of things you know about them, or at least you tell yourself that. Throughout your life, there may be things you thought were true about someone that turned out to be untrue, but maybe the majority of things, and maybe even your belief about what is this person deep down, were true. If we accept this we will never truly know a person in their entirety, or perhaps, to be more generous, we will never truly understand most of the people we meet, so we might be wrong about any particular thing that we assume about this person, as it may not be what we initially interpreted. This is not how people in general act, however, there is a high probability that what we believe to be true about someone is false. If people did this, things like eBay, which Dr. Peterson of course refers to in the video (or the last one perhaps? They're so wonderfully long) wouldn't work. If people acted as if their assumptions about others were likely to be wrong, no honest individual would buy from the site because they would see it as a deterrent likelihood of being scammed. And I think it's a great example of faith, which of course is what a belief in God is often (or always?) defined by, even by those who subscribe to such beliefs. So, to answer the question arising from my initial argument: maybe a partial truth is not an absolute truth, but if it isn't and we still operate from the belief that such is the case, society would not function and the system complete and utter collapse of all perception of reality would likely result, so some form of faith is therefore necessary for any useful or meaningful endeavor, such as understanding what we are talking about when we are talking about God. And so this comment ends not by emphasizing his thesis, but rather by supporting the thesis he was trying to refute. Keep in mind: this is just a sample.
