    Nowadays, the Internet has become an essential part of almost everyone's life, but one of the controversial topics people raise is whether the government should or should not regulate information on the Internet. Both sides have valid points that constitute a reasonable argument. Some people would say they need it because of the dangers lurking in the cyber world, but there are more reasons why the government shouldn't regulate the Internet than there are reasons why it should. The federal government should not regulate or censor information on the Internet because doing so would violate the First Amendment and citizens' rights to privacy, degrade the educational value of the Web, prevent the promotion and facilitation of innovation and technology and would promote civil unrest. First Above all, if the Internet were regulated by the government, it would violate the First Amendment and citizens' right to privacy (Parrish). More than 55 percent of American citizens agree that the federal government should not regulate the Internet (Wark). One of the primary rights afforded to Americans was the right to free speech and freedom of the press. Censoring the Internet would be a direct violation of this amendment. It would also deprive citizens of the right to privacy. Censorship would mean that the government is controlling people in some way, which would rid them of their right to privacy. It is mainly used in a kind of dictatorship. If the federal government regulated or censored the Internet, the value of democracy in our country would diminish.
