Essay / The Story of Terry Shiavo - 1032
Terry Shiavo was a young woman who became ill after having an accident that left her brain dead for the rest of her life. Her husband, Michael Shiavo, was her guardian and was later named legal guardian on June 18, 1990. (http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/schiavo/). This has been a struggle for Mr. Shiavo, as it would have been for me and many others. From that moment on, Mr. Shiavo knew he had a long, hard fight to deal with the fact that his wife, whom he loved, is now brain dead, and it is he who must take care of her and make a medical decision about her. in the name of. Her family was also there for her, and that's how this whole thing became an issue between Mr. Shiavo and Terry's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Schindler. Shiavo was doing his job as his wife's caretaker, taking her to get the necessary treatment she wanted and needed, and truly and truly standing by his wife in such difficult circumstances. He said that "my wife had said she would never want to stay alive if she was in a vegetative state." (http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/schiavo/). He was simply honoring what she had wanted to do if that kind of situation ever happened, and he was obeying what she wanted. I have to completely agree with him and the way he tried and cared for Terry. This becomes difficult for families and it can also take a toll when a family member is sick and needs 24 hour care. Ethically, I see that Michael was right; however, I am also unsure whether he could have given custody of Terry to his parents, even if he honored what she wanted. Sometimes families find themselves in a comfort zone trying to achieve peace with their loved ones by sitting with their loved ones while they are on the machine. I couldn't imagine this fight between Terry and Michael's family. The main fight was over Michael's removal of the feeding tube in May 1998, which would allow Terry to continue and pass away. This fight lasted for many years. On "July 29, 1993", Terry's parents wanted to take custody of their daughter..
