  • Essay / Analysis of the article: Russian Putin saves the television team from...

Ideology of the author: The author here is pro Putin. The author puts Putin's macho image in a positive light by describing this incident where he saves a television crew from a Siberian tiger. This incident perhaps also gives the image of Putin as a savior of man and nature. On the other hand, the other role, the Siberian tiger, expresses the achievements in environmental conservation that have taken place in Russia. This brings us to the author's other ideology in this article. The ideology is that Putin and the Russian government he leads have made considerable and successful efforts on the morally important issue of environmental protection and remain cooperative with the West on this issue, even though Russia has criticized Western wrongdoing in Georgia. The following analysis shows how the above ideologies were identified: Putin is the main subject of the article and is illustrated in a positive way: Most sentences involve Putin. When Putin is mentioned, he is the subject of the sentence. As a subject, he is placed at the center of the reader. The voice of these sentences is mainly active and directs responsibility towards agent Putin. Most of them are positive events, which gives credit to Putin. For example: I. Title: Russian Putin saves a television crew from the Tigerii of Siberia. “Putin quickly killed the beast and gave it a sedative…”iii. "Putin...saved our television crew."iv. "He (Putin) helped measure the incisors of the Amur tiger..."v. “Putin... abandoned plans for an Olympic village near Sochi that could have harmed local flora and fauna.” (Example iv is positive because the "damage" shows the serious consequences that could have followed if the plans had not been abandoned by Putin) Adding to this, the choice... middle of paper...... recently been seriously criticized (given the metaphorical use of “flogging”, meaning to whip or beat) the West over Georgia. The word castigating also points to the West as the culprit of the events in Georgia, because “the West” is the object of the verb “to castigate”. It is later followed by "Putin thanked Western researchers for being involved in programs aimed at saving Amur tigers." ". This suggests that Putin is not anti-West since the aid and cooperation in favor of nature conservation was well received and Russia was grateful for acts such as the verb "thanked" forms a framework in which the subject "Putin" appreciates the object "Western researchers" for something. The use of "blasting" and "thanked" suggests Putin's attitude towards the West where he appreciates the beneficial acts of. the West even though he criticized the West's past wrongdoings..
