In Denver, Colorado, a couple had absolutely neglected to take care of their children. With feces piled up, trash strewn throughout the house, and communication occurring through grunts and gestures, these parents needed a reality check. Not all parents choose to take parenting classes, in their case, they were assigned to them. I think every parent should get one, because not everyone is prepared to have children. When one of their sons had to see a doctor for a cut on his head, doctors were surprised to see a bruise on his ear and he smelled of cigarettes. A police officer and a social services worker were sent to the home and discovered the horrific environment. I am glad that by taking this course I was able to learn more about mandated reporters and their duties. Before, I never would have believed that a doctor could be the one who sees all this happening and the one who brings this problem to the attention of others.
