  • Essay / Personal experience in teaching computer science

Since my childhood, I have been intrigued by how computer programs work. From how I was able to write this essay to how I can control a character in a video game world and make it work so well. This curiosity guided me from a young age towards subjects that delve deeper into the functioning of computers and software. Say no to plagiarism. I also practiced Python in my spare time to get a feel for programming and ultimately really understand it. When selecting my AS, I decided to choose subjects that both appealed to me and supported me by offering me a wide range of career choices. I knew that whatever field I would go into, it would involve either math, physics, computer science, or all three, because the potential careers in each of their fields were the ones that excited me the most. Besides my interest in computers, I have always had a love for physics. I took 8 IGCSEs including English as a First Language, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and ICT. I achieved a total of 6A*s, an A and a B. During my AS exams, I took physics, maths and computer science, achieving 3 As and 3 Achiever awards. I believe that a high academic standard will further help me prepare for the difficulties of pursuing such a rich subject, but with work and effort, everything becomes achievable. During my AS exams, I was a house captain, leading my house (a team made up of several students from different year groups) in school events, I was deputy head of the fundraising committee, and I also helped lead and organize dances and events. This year I'm helping manage event and sales finances as the Assistant Director of Finance. I was also tasked with the role of Deputy Director of Finance and Deputy Director of MUN (Model United Nations), organizing the inclusion of CES in another MUNS school and teaching our own students on MUN procedures. MUN has taught me many things, including improving my public speaking skills and, by extension, my confidence in all situations. Maui Thai is a passion of mine, a sport that I have begun to take seriously and hope to continue later in life, in college and beyond. I was able to balance these important roles with my Maui Thai training and academics while earning 3 Achiever ratings, allowing me to handle multiple jobs and tasks without stressing or losing focus on any of them. Time management is an extremely important skill, not only for college but for life itself, one that I am confident I have mastered. I look forward to studying computer science so that I can work in this emerging industry. Specifically, my passion is working in the video game industry as a game programmer. For me, it's a job I can give my full attention to, a challenging career that requires creativity, hard work and has many options.
