Essay / Alaina, A Study of Career Guidance - 1766
Issues and Problems The main problems and needs that Aliana should address are the reasons why other careers she has chosen previously have not made her happy. She grew tired of English and education during her past careers. I would wonder why she chose these careers in the first place. I would also explore why she never used her journalism minor during her career and if she would like to put effort into this career path. Using the O*NET Interest Profiler, we can explore why she may have chosen these careers and which careers she should really explore based on her scores. Alaina suffers from chronic depression which can affect how she feels on a daily basis. Her medication helps keep her mood stable, but she can't feel real joy in anything. This can affect their perception of professions and their performance in this job. This can also affect the counseling relationship as the counselor will have difficulty determining whether the career choices that have been chosen appeal to him or her and whether the counselor is going in the right direction for that client. Her mood disorder may cause career indecision that leaves her unable to commit to a specific career. To address career indecision, she says, I will use techniques common to career development and life planning interventions, such as facilitating the discovery of skills, interests, abilities and values and teaching the client goal setting, information about the world of work, and, again, decision-making skills” (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2012, P.408). Using the O*NET Interest Profiler, we can gain information that can ease that indecision by showing careers she might like based on what she enjoys. and has knowledge of. His chronic depression could limit the type...... middle of paper ......e his obstacles, feelings and influence in his career choice. By doing this, I can see his scores and how they are used on a career adjustment profile sheet. I would present these results to the client to show how she is adjusting to a career and how that influences her selections. Works Cited Capuzzi, D., & Stauffer, MD (2012).
