  • Essay / Brainology by Carol S. Dweck: The Growth Mindset for...

"Those with a growth mindset reported that after a setback in school, they would simply study more or would study differently next time” (Dweck 2) . Students in a growth mindset understand that failures are temporary setbacks. This means that they must make a more vigorous effort in the learning process. Dweck shows, “Those with a fixed mindset were more likely to say they would feel stupid, study less next time, and seriously consider cheating” (Dweck2). In contrast, students with a fixed mindset strongly believe in innate abilities. Those who fail, they would just think that they are not smart enough, all their efforts were in vain. As a result, it creates a desire to give up rather than try.
