Essay / First Person Account: Franklin Delano Roosevelt
As a man who led a country through the Great Depression, I, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, have witnessed more than we can imagine. As President of the United States, I had seen the scenes of government. World War II was one of the most exciting wars in American history and a war that I had to fight. Let me take you back to how it all started. On November 5, 1932, I was elected leader of the country with John Nance Garner as vice president. Simple enough, I settled on the slogan “Happy Days Are Coming,” which fit the terrible depression America was facing at the moment. One of my first actions while in office, which began on March 4, 1933, was the New Deal. The New Deal was part of my campaign that gave America hope and most likely won me the election. This "Deal" was a collective program that I initiated after taking office in 1933, to help rebuild the economy and alleviate the Depression. The New Deal had four key goals: restoring the economy, creating jobs, adding public facilities, and providing hope. In October 1929, the American economy was hit hard by the stock market crash. Because so many people had invested their money and time in banks, when the banks closed, many had lost all their money and found themselves in deep poverty. For this reason, one of my first actions in the New Deal was the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). In the United States, all banks had to follow this rule. This banking program that I launched not only ensured the safety and protection of my bank users' deposits, but also restored America's confidence in banks, inspiring people to return to banks that have contributed to enriching the economy. Another piece of legislation I was determined to pass... middle of paper ...... due to the stress of war and politics I needed a vacation and decided to go in Warm Spring, Georgia. While relaxing on vacation, I started to feel a terrible pain in my head, then suddenly my eyes closed. In the early 1930s, America faced a massive depression that seemed impossible to escape and never-ending. When FDR was elected, he was able to save the country with his positive thoughts and brilliant ideas. Not only was he able to almost completely pull the nation out of the Great Depression and rebuild the economy, but he was also able to lead the United States through a complex war such as World War II. If Roosevelt's intelligence services were not present, not only the United States, but the entire world could have met a different end. Without a doubt, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was one of the greatest presidents ever elected..
