  • Essay / Personal Account of a Trip to Trinity Lake

TrinityOn Sunday, June 14, a beautiful, warm summer day, I got up early to finish packing and gather all my food. I was getting ready for a week of camping at Trinity Lake with three of my good friends and one of their mothers. Jen and Jo came to my house early to help me prepare the food. We were expecting Kate and her mother to arrive around 8:30am, but it turned out they arrived around 9:00am. When they arrived, we all rushed to grab our bags and load everything into the Chinook! (Kates mini camper van!!!) The coolest ride around! After locating everything, we started our journey!! Well we haven't started yet, we still had a few more stops ahead of us before we actually leave!! The first stop was in a safe lane in Rocklin, Evonne, Kate's mom had to pick up a few extra things to last us through the week. Once we left there we had to make one last stop at a boat store to find the best tube for boating. We found it, a huge tube that four people can ride on!! It was perfect, there were four of us and a tube for four people!!! What more do you need??? We left around 10am and headed towards the highway! This was the real start of our excursion!!! We had tons of food, everything. v, games, everything you need to entertain four girls!! Everything went well until the last 45 minutes or so of the driving portion! We ate so much that I'm sure we all gained at least ten pounds from everything we ate. It really wasn't a good thing that we had consumed so much food as we were now on a very windy road. For Kate and I it wasn't a problem but Jen and Jo were starting to feel a little nauseous. They started blowing songs!!! Luckily there was a bathroom in our vehicle, otherwise we all would have been sick!! It was extremely confusing because one was in the bathroom while the other was trying to get it all in, and then they were running to change and it was just a crazy mess. Well, not literally, but trying to get around each other every couple of minutes was a bit difficult because the Chinook only had a one-person concourse in the middle, so it was tight!! We finally arrived around 3:00 p.m. and I met about five or six other families. our group of girls shared a campsite with Kate's uncle and his team! We decided to set up our tent before anything else so we could place everything and then head out and let the party begin!!!! It was probably the hardest thing we've done as a group, well not difficult but it was very difficult!! There was a clear spot just down this hill near the campsite, so we thought that would be the best spot for our tent!! We didn't know it was a very small hill itself!! We had no choice, we had to use this place, as there was nowhere else near us that we could use! Apparently it was quite amusing for the adults to watch us, they just sat at the table above and laughed at us hysterically while we tried to figure out how to set up thisthing ! We really had no idea what we were doing. After 30 to 45 minutes of struggle, we managed to get up! We didn't realize our tent was on this sloping terrain until we woke up the next morning!! We all slept facing each other with our bags over our heads because that's where the door was and we thought if a bear came in or something it would have to go through our bags before we reach !! Good idea eh?!?!? Well not exactly!! We woke up with our bags on our faces and our feet almost sticking out the bottom of the tent! That's when we noticed we were sleeping on a hill!! The next night we thought we could just change a bit and put our bags at the bottom so they would stop us from going through the tent and nothing would fall on us!! It was a better idea than the one before, but this time we had our feet in it or the bags, but it was better than the bags on our faces, so we decided to leave it that way!! So after setting up the tent and getting everything unloaded, we decided to go out in the boat just to look at the water and see what the lake was like. Ron, Kate's uncle took us to show us around! It was getting dark so we headed back to the campsite so we could eat and then hang out and do whatever. We had a great dinner, nothing that normal campers eat, it was spaghetti!! We were so full that we thought it would be a good idea to take a walk and try to get rid of all that food! We walked down to the "beach" which was really just rocks and red dirt, but we walked along it to the dock and then went back up. The next morning, we got up early around 7:30 to head out on the water. It was the day we were going to learn wakeboarding and we had to get up early when the water was calm. Trying wasn't as easy as we thought. We all tried but Kate was the only one who succeeded! We were tired, so we thought we'd go tubing instead, since it doesn't use as many muscles and we actually knew how to hold on, so we thought! Ron's boat was having trouble pulling us in, so we all gathered at the Violetts, who are friends of Kate's family! They had two tubes that could hold two people each, so it was going to be even better because all four of us could go out at the same time and we weren't stuck in the boat watching! We teamed up and jumped into the tubes and prepared for the end of our lives. Kate warned us that these people were the craziest drives ever, but we didn't really believe her. Holy cow, she was right!! They had a death wish for us or something because they were going so fast that I seriously thought I was going to die flying away! I was the worst at hanging on to the tubes and was always the first to fly away!! Even though it was scary, it was the most fun I've ever had!!! We tubed for about six hours straight, taking turns. We went to eat around 7:00 and we remember all the fun we had today!! After eating we thought we should take a few showers, but it wasn't as easy as it looked. The camp sights didn't have showers, so we had to go down to the lake and use it as a bathtub! It was quite interesting, we had to go down this very steep hill to get to the water carrying a four person tube and all our swimming gear!!! Once !!!!!
