  • Essay / Business Analysis: US West Inc - 2194

Today, organizations are trying to figure out how they can most effectively meet the needs of customers, employees, and shareholders. In recent years, researchers have created many organizational theories that can be used by organizations to improve the effectiveness of their performance. Bolman and Deal's four frameworks are one of the most productive models for reframing organizations because they help companies look through different windows to change their perception and vision of the workplace. This article presents the case from the Western United States in which an executive, Judi Servoss, had to make an important decision that could significantly affect the company's image. To effectively help overcome this difficulty, we will analyze the problem through Bolman and Deal's four frameworks: structural, human resources, political and symbolic. IntroductionDuring the Christmas holidays in 1987, Judi Servoss, who worked as vice-president, President of Public Relations and Advertising at US West, Inc. had to make a crucial decision that could greatly affect the company's image. At issue was that Servoss received an unedited letter and correspondence revealing gender and racial discrimination from upper management and an employee who worked at Fallon McElligot (FM) of the Minnesota Women's Consortium. FM was a well-known advertising organization in Minneapolis that had worked for major companies such as US West, the Wall Street Journal, Porsche USA, Federal Express, Timex, and Lee Jeans (Isabella & Daud, 1993). In addition to its reputation for providing creative skills to its clients, the Fallon McElligot Agency was known as a place that supports a model of employment equality. However, FM's reputation was tarnished by the event in the fall of 1987. Middle of paper represents the unity of the organization and people and also helps the organization accomplish what it desires (Bolman & Deal, 2008, p. 253).
