We live in the 21st century and one of the things that has greatly influenced this era is the increase in technology. Things like smartphones, computers, laptops and iPhones have become an integral part of our lives. With this technology comes the Internet, SMS, tweeters, Facebook, Instagram, etc. These things play an important role in the lives of today's teenagers, but have these things had a positive or negative impact on teenagers? Have things improved or harmed the lives of adolescents? Have social media and texting improved or harmed the lives of teenagers? I believe these things have hurt teenagers in our society today. In this essay, I will discuss the main points on how the use of social media and texting has harmed the lives of adolescents in negative ways. Texting and social media have harmed teens' lives in so many different ways through addiction and obsession. effect this has on adolescents. Teenagers are glued to their computers and iPhones; it affected their social life. Most teenagers no longer visit their friends or interact with each other face to face. The total amount of media usage by teens is over 6 hours on average, these statistics show how teens are affected and dependent on social media. Social media has decreased face-to-face communication between teens. Social media has affected adolescent learning. Since teenagers are so addicted to their phones, they are constantly texting, Facebooking, etc. in class, preventing them from listening to their teachers. According to an article published on the Psych Central website, researchers found that middle school, high school and college students who used Facebook at least once during a 15-minute period scored lower... middle of paper. .. ..ome if the incidents that occur on chat rooms and text messages on social networks. Studies show that social media use can cause obsessive-compulsive behavior, depression, generalized and social anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, introversion, and other maladaptive behaviors. some of my thoughts on this issue regarding the effect of social media and texting on teenagers. I believe this era has been hugely affected by technology. The great Albert Einstein shared his thoughts on the rise of technology; “It has become extremely clear that our technology has surpassed our humanity,” he said. Statistics show that 80 percent of adolescents have at least some form of media access. Texting and social media have affected the lives of today's teenagers.
