  • Essay / The guitar and its effect on my life - 1702

The guitar and its effect on my life It was Christmas morning 2003, the atmosphere was silent and peaceful; not a sound could be heard. Suddenly I was awakened from my eternal sleep. Realizing the importance of the moment and the event, I jumped out of bed and rushed into the living room where a large Christmas tree stood. Under the tree were my precious gifts. As I looked through these random gifts that had been given to me, I was disappointed to find that there were few that particularly appealed to me. Yet, being the silly child that I was, I had neglected one. In the corner of the room was an unpacked box; on it labeled “Electric Guitar and Amplifier”. Although it didn't seem like something that important at first, little did I know that this item would soon prove to have a very significant effect on my life... From that point on, the guitar seemed to overturn the situation for me. It was very different from any other musical instrument I had played before, it was something I had become completely attached to and addicted to. Despite all the offers my father had made me regarding guitar lessons, I had intentionally refused. As perplexed as my father was by my decision, I explained to him that it was an instrument I wanted to play as an enjoyable activity. Having a guitar teacher would give me consistent blocks of homework on specific pieces, thus turning practice into a task. I wanted to learn to play this instrument at my own pace and I wanted to learn to play this instrument in a way that I would consider something...... middle of paper ...... guitar practice a I almost reached the point where my parents had no choice but to impose a maximum practice time of 3 hours per day on the guitar. They also warned me that if my grades dropped, my guitar would be the first item to be confiscated. In a way, this might also be a good thing since it gives me more incentive to get better academic grades. After weighing the pros and cons, I would definitely say that playing guitar has had a positive effect, both psychological and physical, on my body. life. Thanks to my guitar, I was able to free myself from the stresses of everyday life, learn new ideas about music and make new friends. Of all the greatest gifts anyone has ever bought me, my guitar is definitely among the best..
