Essay / First Impressions - 926
The Dalai Lama said: “Sometimes you create a dynamic impression by saying something, and sometimes you create an equally meaningful impression by remaining silent. » (Dalai Lama, nd) Some people believe that first impressions are lasting and difficult to overcome if they are bad. As a leader, a person cannot judge based on first impressions alone or ignore them. Much can be learned from first impressions and this knowledge must be retained while gaining a better understanding of that individual. In the classroom example, an extroverted and introverted scenario of John was given. Let's explore how first impressions strike people, see how John's image changed from one reading to the next. Finally, look to see if the image of John in John's mind would change if the scripts were read in a different order, from introvert to extrovert? First impressions As individuals, many of us cling to that first impression of a person, whether good or bad. . By clinging to these first impressions, we can have a skewed view of an individual. This might be the case if the individual's first impression was bad. The individual could do great things after this first impression, but the sight holder cannot see this because they have biased vision. The individual could have simply been having a “bad day.” It should always be kept in mind that you can never know what is going on behind the closed door of an individual's home, so do not assume that everything is fine. Everyone has bumps in the road and can cause us to experience those "bad days" and sometimes leniency or understanding that we are not all perfect can go a long way. In a Forbes magazine article titled “Seven Seconds to Do…” .middle of paper ......work. You also need to get to know someone before jumping to conclusions about that person. As we saw with John, there is more than one side to a person and you have to get to know all sides.
