Essay / My intention to pursue a master's degree in teaching at Ubd
What led me to become an educator in the first place was when I was in primary school. I remembered that I loved watching teachers share their knowledge in front of a class. The passion grew stronger when I was given the opportunity to participate in teaching programs i.e. ABCL in 2015. In this program, I tutor three chemistry students and one in mathematics. This tutoring experience brought me great satisfaction each time I helped a friend understand a particular chapter. It was a great feeling. Additionally, it taught me how to simplify complex explanations in different ways for better understanding for both my students and myself. Say no to plagiarism. This gives me more confidence to speak, socialize and present my ideas and knowledge. In 2014, while waiting for my O-level results, I volunteered as a nursery assistant teacher for three months. In 2017, I completed a three-week internship in a sixth form center observing chemistry lessons. The experience taught me different methods of class management, of transmitting points/knowledge to students of different ages. Additionally, I was exposed to different classroom activities to achieve a better understanding of students in class, such as role plays, presentations, discussions, etc. I also had the opportunity to teach a chemistry topic to two lower level classes. At first it was difficult because of the nervousness, but as the conference progressed I felt better and at the end of the day it was very rewarding. Teaching them and helping them understand the points taught was very satisfying and I enjoyed it very much. Thus, I realized that I am passionate about pursuing my teaching career and therefore I intend to apply for a Masters in Teaching at UBD. Besides my academic results, I participated in the ping pong tournament in 2014. It was a good opportunity to I joined the competition because it gives me confidence, it teaches me teamwork since it It was a double game and the effort to be the best. This is somehow related to my course because it helps me cope with stress and fully engage. Additionally, it results in a healthy physical condition leading to better thinking skills. Another way for me to cope with stress, I would jog around my house or go to the sports complex to jog or play badminton or ping pong. Sometimes I played roller skating in my house. So, I exercise to release tension. During my undergraduate studies, I not only focused on my studies, but also participate in other activities outside of class. I was serving as Secretary/Treasurer of the Bruneian Society at University College London, known as the BRUCL Society, as well as Secretary of the Bruneian Society at Brunei Hall over the coming year. I had been part of a committee to organize events such as Lost in London, Brunei Night Stage Performance, National Day, Junjung Ziarah, etc. Additionally, I had joined a three-day Islamic camp known as Kem Ibadah and a workshop on mental health.
