Essay / Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare - 1132
Romeo and Juliet EssayIn Romeo and Juliet, a tragedy written by the great English playwright William Shakespeare, "a pair of star-crossed lovers commit suicide", due to the rivalry of two families (Crowther 1). Simply put, hatred between two families drives two lovers to suicide. Although this affair is a suicide, the fault may not lie solely with the lovers, Romeo and Juliet. The tragedy could be the fault of others involved in the event, including the adults surrounding the lovers. There are three adults around the lovers who could have influenced them and led them to their death: Brother Laurent, the nurse and the apothecary. In the story, Romeo's only trusted advisor is Brother Lawrence, the person who agrees to marry the lovers, leading to their deaths later. At first, Romeo's heart belongs to Rosaline, a relative of the Capulet family. Her rejection deeply saddens Romeo, but when he sees Juliet, his heart for Rosaline turns to her. Juliet of the Capulet family becomes Romeo's love interest, as he is also to her. This puppy love formed by the two lovers is love at first sight, which is childish and might not last long, and Brother Laurent knows it full well: Saint Francis, this is a radical change! Did you so quickly abandon Rosaline, whom you loved so much? So young men love with their eyes and not with their hearts. Jesus and Mary, how many tears have you cried for Rosaline? How many salty tears have you wasted salting a love you never tasted? The sun has not yet melted the fog that you have made with all your sighs. The moans you made still ring in my old ears. There's still a stain on your cheek from an old tear that hasn't been washed away yet. If you ever were... middle of paper... a living Romeo, she wouldn't have committed suicide to die after him. Brother Lawrence, the nurse, the apothecary - these people should be the most blamed. for having falsely influenced the decisions made by the lovers. A person influenced by bad thoughts should not take full responsibility for committing a crime; rather we must blame those bad thoughts which influence it. Without these characters, Romeo and Juliet would not be dead: they could perhaps live in peace with each other, far from their families. But without these characters, Romeo and Juliet would not be such a successful play, containing the essence of a tragedy, “for there never was a more unhappy story than that of Juliet and her Romeo (Crowther 94 ). » Works cited by Crowther, Jean, ed. “No fear Romeo and Juliet.” SparkNotes.com.
