  • Essay / Remembering the good times of my childhood

Favorite childhood memory Oh, the time when I was a kid again, without adult responsibilities and without a care in the world except having fun . As an only child growing up with artists for parents, it was hard not to fall under their influence to express myself creatively. My favorite childhood memory encompasses my entire childhood which consisted of a lot of pretending and making things with my hands. This is my favorite memory because I have known no other happiness in my entire life where my imagination flourished. Say no to plagiarism. The smells, the colors, the textures are all things that immediately take me back to my childhood. One day in particular, I unearthed an origami book among my father's treasure trove of art books collected. Filled with intense curiosity, I wasted no time leafing through it and going through it page by page. Excitement then had me pulling out my bin of craft supplies as I began to recreate each animal paper fold shown in the book. Then, within an hour, I transformed the entire living room into an interactive biome. Origami animals roamed the coffee table and couch, while pieces of fringed green construction paper covered the rug. Snakes magically climbed the walls and the stereo, while a cascade of blue Sharpie-colored foil fell from the computer table and made its way down the hallway. It was in this artificial stream that I would catch carefully cut and hand-painted fish, then retreat to my fort of fresh unfolded linen hanging from the ceiling. It’s during this day that you can sum up how every day of my childhood went and that’s what made it so special. This memory tends to be my memory because of the peace it brings to my mind. In my current life as a working student, I struggle to keep a balance in my daily routine. There are constant financial and academic stresses. It's so easy to get caught up in work life and adult responsibilities that I tend to neglect making time to enjoy some sort of pleasure outside of that. Because of this, I find myself feeling dissatisfied and unmotivated most of the time. I'm also at a point in my life where I'm still trying to figure out my career goals. Every time I return to this memory, it's like a reminder of who I am and where my true happiness lies. I try to hold on to this memory as long as possible and incorporate it into my waking life. There is no doubt that my childhood would have been different if I had grown up in a different family. Although my father has an influence on me through drawing and painting, my mother is very crafty and resourceful with whatever she comes up with. She showed me the magic of paper cutting, sewing, knitting and sculpting with clay. She also showed me the magic of being able to combine everything, meaning there are no limits or rules in art. As a preteen, this was mind-blowing to me. I would come up with ideas for painting clay hearts with nail polish, something that would protect them and give off that lovely shiny finish. I would experiment with mixing nail polish with eye shadow to create a paint palette. Blocks of plaster of Paris, soap and scented candles fell victim to my pocket knife as I carved everything,.
