Hr. 1The book we read in class was called Anthem by Ayn Rand. This book is about a society that is corrupt in many ways. There are several reasons why corruption is because there is no individualism and society changes very slowly. It took them a lot of time just to make candles, nowadays candles are made very quickly and simply. The government has ensured that technological progress is slow and does not progress. None of the townspeople have real names, they are known as robots or as a group. As one of the main characters, the name is Equality 7-2521. Equality is a street sweeper in this society and is not like the others. He is intelligent, strong, egocentric and curious. Another character Equality falls in love with is Liberty 5-3000. She's a peasant girl who gives Equality water when they're not supposed to talk. Equality's best friend and only friend is International 4-8818. He helped Equality find the tunnel and kept it a secret from the rest of society. Equality is later named Prometheus and Liberty, The Golden One and later in the Gaea house. Ayn Rand renamed them Prometheus and Gaea because they closely resemble these gods from Greek mythology. Later, they run together into the Forbidden Forest to start a new life for themselves and the future. They find a house with many books and Equality reads them to discover the "I". It was then that Equality 7-2421 renamed itself Prometheus and Liberty 5-3000, Gaea.Ayn Rand named Equality 7-2521 Prometheus because they were similar in many ways. When Equality was younger, he saw the Transgressor of the Unspeakable Word suffer. He was burned alive because he was one of the few who knew what individualism was. Equality and freedom will make a society that could possibly help the planet create light by rejoicing the individual human spirit, something that must be liberated, not held back and crushed by terror. Their discoveries put an end to corrupt preachings of selflessness and humility in favor of truly moral philosophies of freedom and, indeed, selfishness. These are the reasons why Ayn Rand named Equality, Prometheus and Liberty, Gaea..
