    Tim Burton is known for many of his mysterious, suspenseful and thrilling films. His childhood influenced the way he writes, screens and presents films to his audiences and fans. Four of these outstanding films are Edward Scissorhands, Frankenweenie, Corpse Bride and Coraline. In these films, and in many others, Tim Burton uses various cinematographic techniques to represent and express the feelings felt by the characters, define the atmospheres, the scenes and the story. Tim Burton uses lighting, sound and camera angles to create a cohesive film with funny, suspenseful and tragic scenes. Tim Burton uses the cinematic technique of lighting to perfectly depict dark, mysterious and frightening scenes. In his film, Edward Scissorhands, Burton uses low-key lighting effectively in the scene where Peg enters Edward's mansion and uses it in the opening credits to create tense and suspenseful scenes. Burton also uses harsh lighting to his advantage when the neighbors and Peg throw a party for Edward. The stage was flooded with light to create a scene of happiness, fun and surprises during the party. His use of lighting, however, reaches new levels in his other film Frankenweenie. Although the entire film is awash in darkness, you can see when scenes become darker or lighter. Burton uses low-key lighting in the scene where Sparky, Victor Frankenstein's beloved dog, is trapped inside the burning windmill while trying to save another dog. The scene is flooded with darkness to create a frightening and suspenseful scene. Burton also uses harsh lighting during the scene where Sparky is revived by the citizens of New Holland after the devastating fire that "killed" Sparky to create a scene...... middle of paper ...... nos points of view that are seen by the characters and actors. Tim Burton used lighting, sound, and camera angles and positions to develop a clear mood in each scene to further help the audience interpret each action and the film as a whole. Burton uses these cutscenes to his advantage, which effectively communicates his tone to the audience. He used sound to appeal to our senses so we could hear the suspense of happiness. He also used lighting to appeal to our sense of sight so that we can be nervous when it is low-key, or keep us in a sense of tranquility and happiness when it is high. Finally, he used camera angles and positions to show what the character sees from his point of view. Tim Burton is truly a dynamic director and producer who knows how to make different audiences feel what he feels by creating his impeccable films with incredible effects..
