Creation: The Nine WorldsAt the beginning of time, there was neither ground nor sky. The only thing that existed was the Ginnungagap, the abyss. (http://www.pantheon.org/articles/g/ginnungagap.html) The frost of Niflheim and the flames of Muspelheim grew closer until they met at Ginnungagap. And from the flames and frost he created Ymir, the only living being and the first of the divine giants. Ymir was capable of producing asexually and when Ymir sweated, other giants were born. As the frost melted, a cow named Audhumbla emerged. Audhumbla fed Ymir with her milk. And this is why she fed on the licking stones contained in the ice. Licking the ice, she discovered Buri, the first tide of Aesir gods. Buri then had a son named Bor, then he married Bestla, daughter of the giant Bolthorn. Then the two had a half-god, half-giant child. His name was Odin, who became the leader of the Aesir gods. With Odin and his two brothers, Vili and Ve, they understood that they must have a different vision of Odin rather than three absolutely distinct beings. Later, Odin, Vili, and Ve came together and defeated Ymir and began building the world from Ymir's. corpse. The ocean was created from his blood while the ground was created from his skin and the muscles grew vegetation from his hair and the clouds were formed from his brain while the sky was created from his skull. Four dwarves, Austri, Vestri, Norori and Suori, supported Ymir's skull above the Earth. Then the gods formed the first man and woman, Ask and Embla, from a pair of tree trunks and a fence was built around their home in Midgard to protect them from the giants.
