    The ozone layer acts as a shield between the sun and the earth's surface by preventing the penetration of UV rays to the earth's surface by absorbent. The ozone layer is depleted when CFCs are released into the atmosphere. These CFCs, when released into the atmosphere, undergo various reactions and deplete the ozone layer by degrading its molecules; in doing so, CFCs reduce the UV absorption capacity of the ozone layer. As a result, UV radiation falls directly on the earth's surface, thereby increasing the surface area
