Essay / HINTS, an organization helping people with cancer
HINTS is an organization that conducts surveys of random people in the United States. The surveys mainly focus on cancer-related topics and how these people know cancer-related information. This information is useful for observing changes in people's knowledge and potential opportunities to inform the public about common or emerging health issues. The surveys aim to find out how adults aged 18 and over obtain information, primarily on cancer-related topics, either for their own use or for a relative or friend. With this information available, HINTS can find better opportunities to spread knowledge about cancer prevention and hopefully reduce the number of people diagnosed with this deadly disease. HINTS uses three different methods to survey and collect data from people across America. One of the methods HINTS uses is called Random Digit Dialing (RDD) where HINTS calls random numbers and surveys the person over the phone. The second method used is called computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI). In this method, HINTS uses a computer to call random Americans, conduct an interview with them and collect the information. Finally, the final method HINTS uses is Address-Based Sampling (ABS), in which HINTS mails surveys to random addresses across the country so they can be completed and returned. HINTS has excellent data collection methods, but its efficiency is not as high as desired due to people refusing to complete a survey, starting and finishing it incompletely, or any other reason , people don't seem to respond to the surveys offered to them. HINTS is a very serious organization which makes the best use of the data obtained and presents precise statistics.H...... middle of paper ......tion. In this case, we can see, assuming that the younger people are and have professions such as student, employee or unemployed, that the younger a person is, the less likely they are to get cancer. This can be noticed when looking at occupations in which older people tend to be abundant, such as retired or disabled, and realizing that these are the ones that have the highest cancer diagnosis rate . Although the null hypothesis must also be considered, it is highly likely that the alternative hypothesis is true. In a real-life scenario, young people like adolescents and young adults rarely get cancer, unlike older men and women who always seem to be at risk of developing cancer. A person's age can be used to measure their health and in this case the diagnosis of cancer is less likely to be found in people of lower age rather than in older people..
