Sprint Concert CritiqueINTRO PARAGRAPH:I believe our choir is full of ambitious and talented young women. With confidence, focus and desire to succeed; I think our choir could be unstoppable. In order to perform to the best of our abilities, we need to fix a few things in our songs. FIRST PARAGRAPH: Choose Something Like A StarOur first track, “Choose Something Like A Star,” might be our most magical song if sung with the correct tone, balance, and rhythm. For starters, the soprano should be a little louder in measure 4 when she sings “Oh.” However, in measure 5 they should be quieter so that the lower parts can be heard. Because it's supposed to be a softer song, I think bars 28-34 should be calmer. Additionally, the violas need to be more confident in their notes in measures 54 and 55. In addition to tone, we should also work on the balance of this song. To begin with, it should be remembered that a majority of this piece is sung on the piano. For example, in bar 8 we suddenly became loud. Because we were too strong in bars 30-34, bar 35 wasn't as powerful as it could have been. The same "dynamic dilemma" also occurred in bars 38 to 41. Last but not least, I think a few of our notes were wrong. For example, in bars 35-37, when we sing, “tell us something, we can learn it by heart”. In conclusion, we need to work on our tones, balance, and rhythms for this piece. SECOND PARAGRAPH: Choosing Something Like a StarIn addition to the items listed above, we also need to work on mixing and our diction. In measure 24, our vowels should be unified when we sing “light.” In bars 66-68, we should try to blend in better with the line, “without stooping from its sphere.” In bar 89 you have to remember to look...... middle of paper...... the connection with the song. In conclusion, I think this has the potential to become a great piece if we can convey our emotions to the audience. SEVENTH PARAGRAPH: Seal Lullaby Our final track, “Seal Lullaby,” could be a wonderful song if we fix a few things. To begin with, the soprano's should be a little quieter in measures 9 and 10; however, the violas should sing more during these two measures. Additionally, violas should be more confident in the notes and sing more in bars 19-26 and 41-43. In bars 1-12 and 53-74, we should practice unifying our vowels. As for the rhythms, the violas must remember to stretch the linked note in measures 56 and 57. Finally, you must find an emotional connection with the song, like imagining yourself singing to a baby. In conclusion, I think the choir as a whole needs to have more confidence in the notes of this piece..
