Since the hero's journey is the process of growth (Segal, 93), Campbell's criteria said that if the hero returns with an elixir or transforms into a better person for society, then he or she has experienced a hero's journey . Therefore, Gilgamesh's first journey is not a hero's journey, even though it had great supporters, a threshold, and a heroic effort. Even before Gilgamesh began his first journey into the Cedar Forest, he was strong and self-centered. He was selfish and didn't care how much the people around him suffered because of his behavior, such as raping the women and wives of nobles. Gilgamesh was still the same person after completing the mission. So how and why is Gilgamesh a
