Essay / The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels
The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich EngelsThe Communist Manifesto, written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, describes how a society should be run under communism . The document provides truths about what is wrong in society; what is the cause of these wrongs; how they can be repaired; and how it relates to humans and nature. Marx was a political philosopher of German origin. Marx and Engels divide the document into four sections: Section 1: Bourgeois and proletarians, section 2: Proletarians and communists, section 3: Socialists and communist literature, and section 4: Positions of communists in relation to the various existing opposition parties. The first section, Bourgeoisie and Proletarians, focuses on the struggle between the classes created in society. Marx refers to the Middle Ages to show how complicated the class system was. “In the Middle Ages, feudal lords, vassals, guild masters, journeymen, apprentices, serfs…”(1) constituted different layers of society. With all these different occupational groups and economic stability, oppression was inevitable. Society did not have many groups and classes like in the Middle Ages. Society was made up of two fundamental groups, the bourgeoisie and the proletarians. The bourgeoisie was a class made up of people who owned property. These people made up the wealthier half of society. Proletarians belonged to the lowest class of society. Marx explains how the bourgeoisie became such a strong member of society. This happened during the industrial revolution. The new machines changed all industrial production. With these new advances, Marx describes that the middle class has been destroyed and industrial millionaires are resurrected...... middle of paper ......ss..." The fourth and final section, Positions of communists in relation to various existing opposition parties, explains how communists work with different parties. Marx describes their relationship by stating that they try to find parties that share the same beliefs. Communists are trying to find parties that believe in the power of the working class and believe in the overthrow of the bourgeoisie. Marx concludes by saying that the working class must unite and use force to defeat the oppressors. The Communist Manifesto presents the fundamental beliefs of communism. Marx places strong emphasis on the struggle between the bourgeoisie and the proletarians. Marx believes that proletarians must unite recognizing that they are all the same and fight the bourgeoisie. Once this happens, then the oppressors will no longer repress society like the bourgeoisie..
