Under these conditions, man enjoys his dignity and feels free from fear and humiliation, thus becoming productive and useful to his neighbor. These are the positive aspects of Western civilization, all linked to the means, tools and machines used by man. They are actually double-edged tools that can be used for either good or evil. Even the expression “global village”, initially coined to translate the reduction of distances, is not a pure blessing, it can well cause a lot of harm. Western civilization is in fact a civilization of means and capabilities, and not a civilization pursuing sublime objectives and ends.
