We can say that the smugglers committed illegal acts (we'll talk about this later), but we can also say that Prohibition helped turn these young men into businessmen for the good of society later. . During Prohibition, people began smuggling alcohol and dispersing it throughout their area for profit. These people are known as “bootleggers.” They were generally poor young men who had nothing to lose. Smugglers would team up with other smugglers to create partnerships. Eventually, they “learned to pool their resources because it minimized risk and maximized their ability to mobilize capital, influence, and management skills” (Haller, 81). After Prohibition ended, these bootleggers entered the business sector using the skills they learned during Prohibition and became successful. It also led to the creation of Las Vegas and the gambling scene. Haller adds on page 80: "Without the former bootleggers who founded and staffed the first generation of casino hotels, Las Vegas might not have not been possible. » People fled to this region and “reached a population of 464,000 in the 1980 census” (80).
