Essay / The United States Air Force - 1108
Winston Churchill once said: "To fail to have an adequate air force in the present state of the world is to compromise the foundations of freedom and national independence” (Quotes on everything). In this sense, the military is important to America, especially the Air Force. The Air Force ensures the security and safety of the population. When starting out, the military lifestyle is usually not everyone's first choice. In particular, the US Air Force is not always the first branch that comes to mind when thinking about the future. Most of the time, people decide to enlist in any branch of the military because of uncertainty about their future. “…I had no career or educational goals, no plans; that’s where my path has taken me,” says US Air Force Recruiter Sergeant Nicholas Gega (Gega). The U.S. Air Force provides economic security and emotional stability. Many people in the United States are currently unemployed; the rate is actually 9.1 percent (Statistics). This rate increased about a year ago, but has been declining until recently. For a person to be considered unemployed, they either do not obtain stable employment or have not been employed for approximately four weeks after being laid off (Characteristics). When people are looking for a job, they are desperate for anything that comes their way, whether it is a full-time job, part-time job, or even an under-the-table paid job. Most of those looking for stability usually don't turn to the military due to unknown facts that show how beneficial it can actually be for your life. The importance of having economic and emotional stability is reflected in the many branches of the military, especially the Air Force.
