I have been interested in systems and how they work since my high school days. I spent many weekend afternoons taking apart my bike and an air conditioner just to look at the systems. Science has long held a precious place in my heart. Since my secondary education, I have had a particular interest and aptitude for science. Based on my interests, I chose the science major in high school. It was here that I truly discovered myself. I was more inclined towards physics than any other science stream. That’s when I decided to do my bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Eager to study in the best engineering college in India, it was only through my hard work, determination and perseverance that I got selected in BITS-Pilani, a university whose admission value is about 1%. In college, I continued to do well in all areas. subjects related to mechanical engineering and this fact is reflected in my grades. I have the best grades in Physics-1 (Mechanical Engineering), Solid Mechanics, Advanced Solid Mechanics, Production Techniques, etc. While following my “Transport Phenomena” course, I noticed the power of digital techniques. I was very interested and curious to know more about the subject and so I worked on “Numerical Techniques Used in CFD”, during the first semester of my first year. During the project, I was exposed to various concepts, fluid flow and heat transfer equations. In this project, I learned fundamental design techniques, finite difference method and finite volume method, which helped me solve basic heat transfer and fluid flow problems. This was one of my first research experiences and I learned the different nuances of research and now possess the ability to work independently when necessary. This stint further strengthened my interest in the design and manufacturing aspects of mechanical engineering and saw me develop as a team player. I chose to apply to TAMU because of the excellent research facilities. I am particularly interested in the Design Systems Lab and believe that I will be able to contribute positively to the research under the guidance of Dr. Richard J. Malak Jr. I feel that I can realize my potential by completing the graduate program in mechanical Engineering.
