The Progressive Era was a period of social activism and political reform in the United States that flourished from the 1890s to the 1920s. Initially, it was a social movement, but it transformed into a political movement. The progressives, those who supported this movement, all started from the support of American society, rather than the rural areas of the West and South. Over time, progressivism was seen as a phenomenon specific to the individual rather than the society in which they found themselves. They believe that if the individual succeeds, so will society. The ability to achieve a better world lies in the faith of each individual. Many progressives shared similar values ​​that constituted the spirit of progressivism. They also trusted science, a value that most believed would benefit the future. As the rise of progressivism continued, many professions became available. Many jobs sought as part of this movement were medicine, law, business, education, and social work. It is the beginning of a new world similar to ours. Theodore Roosevelt was one of the greatest supporters of the progressive movement. He was not in favor of excessive control of big business or corrupt monopoly over industries. Theodore Roosevelt also believed that strong businesses were good for America. He would encourage help from corporations he deemed “moral” to monitor and eliminate other greedy corporations. His actions against corrupt big businesses earned him the nickname “trust-buster.” Roosevelt even insisted on an income tax that would affect the wealthy; however this proposition was not constitutional. Rather than amend the proposal, Teddy was determined to make the Constitution fully adaptable to the political demands of the majority, a...... middle of paper... and return control to moral citizens.
