It represents everything that is good about America and demonstrates the power of capitalism. He started out as a man loyal to the crown, but then, because of the shameful actions of the British Empire, he became a true American. His scientific experiments revolutionized the world. Benjamin Franklin's father was a candle maker, but he was also a skilled mechanic. Part of a family of thirteen, Franklin once commented on his mother, calling her a "discreet and virtuous woman." Franklin never received a proper education before he left home; this was due to his family's poverty. He then served as an apprentice to his brother, James Franklin. Franklin mocked Boston using satirical remarks in his clever articles, always signed "Silence Dogood." (“Benjamin Franklin.” 60). Franklin's brother was later arrested for his criticism, and in his absence Franklin continued to edit the newspaper. Franklin then left Boston and headed for Philadelphia. In 1724, Franklin left for England, he later flourished in England and became a master printer and became interested in politics. Upon his return, Franklin purchased his own press and founded The Pennsylvania Gazette (“Benjamin Franklin.” 61). He later wrote the famous Poor Richard's Almanac, a book about common sense (Moncrief 342). He quickly rose to the top, becoming clerk of the Pennsylvania Assembly and then postmaster for Pennsylvania. At the same time, Franklin ran a large, successful bookstore and even entered into partnerships with booksellers around the world. He retired ... middle of paper ... American spirit. Franklin is a literal embodiment of American capitalism. He became a true American patriot after Britain's horrible tax methods. Benjamin Franklin's scientific inventions and experiments changed the world forever. He has made great contributions to the scientific community. Benjamin was a great man with a heart full of gold. He had a great writer's mind and was very intelligent. Without Franklin, America would never have become what it is today. History will forever remember Franklin as the man who ignited change and ushered in a golden age for America..
