Alcoholism is a serious problem in today's world. The National Institutes of Health reports that 15 percent of Americans have an alcohol problem. As a little girl, I witnessed family turmoil due to alcohol abuse. I will never forget that feeling of fear knowing something bad could happen. Having experienced this situation, I decided to analyze the photo which conveys a message from Alcoholics Anonymous; which is a very popular association of people who share their experiences to help others recover from alcoholism. The analyzed image shows little baby shoes completely destroyed. The shoes are located on the floor inside the house. At the bottom of the image is a logo of the Alcools Anonymes company. The author uses appeals to pathos, logos, and ethos to encourage people to join the AA group. The little pink baby girl shoes that the viewer can see in the middle of the image imply pathos. First, baby shoes highlight the negative effects of alcoholism on the family. Above all, the worst victims of this addiction are innocent children. Children's shoes also arouse strong emotions in the viewer. This brings a feeling of sadness and injustice. If, for example, an adult shoe were presented, it would not be as emotional. Why are shoes broken? Many people want to have their own children but unfortunately cannot have them. So why do some people harm helpless little children? Domestic violence causes many behavioral and emotional problems in children who are victims of it. These shoes are unusual because they are made of glass. The broken glass implies that alcoholism in the family is destroying the family. The AA program offers self-examination, a way to survive without alcohol. I believe this Alcohol Anonymous ad is effective because it appeals to the viewer's logos, pathos and ethos. It is also aimed at people dependent on alcohol and their families. Baby shoes highlight the negative effects of alcohol abuse on the addict and those around them. However, it also gives a chance for a better life by joining the Alcoholics Anonymous organization. It's a great opportunity to start a new life and free yourself from alcohol..
