Thomas Schelling's book, The Strategy of Conflict, explains the broad strategies and theories used in times of conflict. Throughout his novel, Schelling discusses many strategies and tactics that can be directly linked to a successful campaign in the game Diplomacy, created by Realpolitik. Using the different strategies explained throughout the book can lead a player to dominate his opponents, if he is able to understand and execute the strategies precisely. Thomas C. Schelling discusses many different strategies that can be used when training. a conflict and how they can affect the outcome of this dilemma. Such strategies include the use of bargaining, strategic moves, randomization of promises and threats, and the use of surprise attacks and reciprocal surprise attacks. These strategies were instrumental in successfully executing the diplomacy game moves that can be seen during the Smirnova Practice and Vinny New games. Many students who participated in these two games attempted to use the strategies explained in The Conflict Strategy. Schelling classified conflicts into two different types, a zero-sum game and a non-zero-sum game. A zero-sum game is a mathematical representation of a situation in which one participant's gain or loss is exactly balanced by the losses or gains of the other participant(s). A situation in which participants can all win or suffer together is known as a non-zero sum game. Across these two different types of games, the true characteristic of a zero-sum game, compared to a non-zero-sum game, is that the sum of all winnings of a player or group of players is equal to the sum of all losses of a player or group of players. all possible outcomes of this game while you are in the middle of a paper......understand them.
