Essay / Sister Wives Case - 728
Since the series became popular and the family became so well known, many legal questions have been raised regarding the legality of marriages and living situations. In 2011, the case Brown v. Buhman was filed in the United States District Court. When the TV show aired, many questions surfaced and the video of Kody and Robyn's wedding ceremony was used against them in court. The Brown family fought back, stating that the situation was legal because only one marriage was on paper and the other wives only had spiritual marriages. In June 2012, criminal charges against the Browns were dropped. Later, the family was allowed to continue with their unusual marriage because it concerned religion and only one woman was technically married to Kody. Although the Browns have seventeen children and their parents all practice polygamy, many of their children have previously stated that they do not think the polygamous life is for them.
