Essay / Individual Student Profile: Goal Statement
Sample Example: Student Profile Essay Ever since I was little, I always wanted to be a teacher. I grew up with all levels of teachers in my family. Some were college professors, high school professors, elementary school teachers, and even counselors. You could say it was in my blood. I played “school” with my cousins and always wanted to be a teacher. From that point on, I began working with children as a "kindergarten aide" throughout my elementary school years, I worked for the Chicago Park District during my teenage years and I was a tutor throughout my early adult years. Teaching students new things and watching them light up when they understand something has become a passion of mine. Say no to plagiarism. Get an original essay Thanks to the courses I took at Northeastern Illinois University and the American College of Education, as well as my experiences in the classroom, I developed a teaching philosophy that I implemented in my classroom. My personal philosophy is to educate, inspire and bring change to my students. Nelson Mandela once said: “Education is the most powerful weapon that can be used to change the world.” This quote really means a lot to me because through my teachings I want my students to know that having an education is the most powerful tool you can have and not to take that for granted. Goal Statement #1: Educate. I want to be the best teacher possible for my students. I want to give them the education that they and I know they deserve. It makes me extremely happy to educate my students about new things and work with them to make sure they understand not only the concepts, but also the practical applications. My students should feel my passion for teaching and I want them to be able to reflect it in their work. If a teacher doesn't like what they do, students will understand clearly. I want them to be motivated and committed to their work so that they can give their best and strive for greatness. Students need to shine through their creativity and strengths, so with all my assignments and lessons, I give them a choice on how to achieve this. Some students understand the concept differently than others, so I want them to show it to me in the most competent way that they know as well. I design my lessons based on their different learning styles and strengths. “If learning from a teacher requires being influenced by that teacher, then the possibility of being influenced requires vulnerability to that influence; that is, we can now simultaneously situate ourselves in both the love of life and the continued possibility of interrupting this complacency.” My goal in educating my students is that they remember what I have taught them their whole lives and have confidence in their work. I want to be that teacher that they come back to years later and say, “Hey, remember when you taught me that…thanks.” It would be the most satisfying achievement in the world. Second Objective Statement: Inspire. I entered this profession knowing that I wanted to inspire young minds for the better. My goal is to be someone's role model. I have had many teachers who have been my role models and still are today, because I am always learning too. Helping them strive for greatness and letting them know that they truly can do anything they put their mind to, 43-55.
