  • Essay / Everyday Symbolism By Alice Walker - 1367

Symbolism is not as simple as it seems. Symbolism is about objects that have true meaning to them. For example, when you see a stop sign, the real symbol it is trying to show us is to stop. When it's your birthday and you receive something from someone really special to you, it becomes a real symbolism for you. The symbol on the streets tells us which directions we can go and what not to do, so the symbols on the streets are there to show us what to do. In this short story “Everyday Use”, Alice Walker uses symbolism for objects passed down from ancestors. The story “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker is full of symbolism and heritage. It shows the symbolism and true heritage. This shows how objects have symbolism, but not only that, it shows the grandeur and true meaning of heritage. In “Everyday Use,” Wangero, a beautiful black woman who always looks down on her friends and family, returns to her humble home where she makes a mess of everything. She shows her mom, a working man (715) that she is not the same way her true heritage wants her to be. She's clearly visiting her humble home to take home decorative items even though those items have meaning to Mama Johnson and to Maggie, a young woman who has a truly frightened soul. As the story progresses, it shows us how Mama Jonson, who never said no to Deele, learns that she is no longer the same as she was before going to this school, and she decides to put Dee in her place to help her lovely Maggie. to get out of this shame in which she has always been. When Mama Johnson does this, all the characters are placed in their places. Dee leaves. Maggie shows a real smile for the first time, and Mama Johnson sees the true reality of things.
