    Imagine a world where the community you live in has so much power over you that it even controls your feelings and robs you of your memories. Although they may seem pointless at first, memories are a crucial and necessary aspect of life, and this is explicitly demonstrated in the famous book The Giver by Lois Lowry. In this comprehensive and thought-provoking book, Jonas's community has definitely taken away memories and placed the burden of preserving those memories on the receiver. As he obtains many memories as a Receiver, Jonas soon realizes their importance and how much the community suffers without them. Mainly, as he experiences pain and loss through his deepened memories, Jonas realizes the many flaws of his once "perfect" community. Reviewing the horrific release video, Jonas felt a sense of sadness and sympathy that no other person in the community can feel. Lowry explains in detail: “Jonas felt a wrenching sensation inside himself, the feeling of terrible pain forcing its way out to emerge in a scream” (Lowry 151). Given his memories, Jonas can understand that there is no need to kill a newborn just because he is different. On the other hand, since Jonas' father never experienced sorrow through his memories, he cannot distinguish good from evil; therefore, eliminating the baby will not bring him any pain. Overall, because Jonas had meticulous memories to guide him, he was able to experience things that strengthened his mindset and opinions. In addition to grief and sympathy, with memories one can also obtain an immense amount of knowledge and wisdom. With certain memories of loss and failure, one can avoid accidents that may occur in the future. For example, when they are in the middle of paper...definition of happiness, they appreciate everything their community offers them and do not strive for a better and brighter future. For example, they are not able to see the faults of their autonomous community since without memories, they do not understand what happiness is. However, since Jonas realizes that there is a better and nicer place elsewhere, he constantly struggles to improve his life. Therefore, memories helped Jonas experience the wide variety of emotions essential to his well-being and led him to work toward an effective future. But if the other innocent members of the community do not understand happiness, how will they acquire all the splendid advantages of inheriting memories? Eventually, it was only through memories that Jonas experienced true love and happiness and constantly yearned for a certain aspiration..
