In the two books, Sky Burial and Stick Out Your Tongue, he gives us different aspects of the people and culture of Tibet. Sky Burial written by Xinran is the story of a Chinese woman traveling to Tibet to find her husband. During this trip we can get an idea of what Tibet and its people are like, as well as the political conflicts between China and Tibet. However, in Stick Out Your Tongue, written by Ma Jian, it is a simple book that depicts Tibet in more detail and from a harsh perspective. This book, unlike Sky Burial, is much more descriptive and does not involve the concept of love. Despite the differences between the two books, there are still similarities and related concepts. Reading these two books allows readers to see Tibet from different perspectives and gain a better understanding of Tibetan culture, religion and people. In order to understand the political factors that influence these two books; you need to get some background information on why China and Tibet have such animosity against each other. Tibetans feel that their freedom is being preserved and that they are being dictated to by China, which they do not approve of. China claims Tibet offers better with them in mind...... middle of paper ......an. Ma Jian magnifies taboo, incest and guilt in this family story. The only religious aspect was the old man praying to Buddha to wash away his sins. The interpretation of the Ma Jian family does not include love, friendship, or hope, but instead manifests itself through sins and a twisted family. The two books have similarities and differences related to Tibetan culture. Xinran and Ma Jian wrote their book from different perspectives on how they felt about Tibet. Xinran looked at Tibet through glasses of holiness and love. While Ma Jian took his experiences and imagination to form five short stories dealing with different topics. Both authors use the title of their book to give readers an idea of what the book is about and to see how the title interweaves with the text. Each book gives you a different perspective and helps you form your own vision of Tibetan culture..
